ABOUT STRATA
About Strata Learning After School
Strata Learning After School provides thoughtfully designed programs that support children’s growth, connection, and independence beyond the school day.

Our approach recognizes that the hours after school serve a different purpose than the classroom. Children need space to decompress, engage socially, and participate in learning experiences that feel active and meaningful. Programs are designed to complement the school day, not extend it, offering structure without academic pressure.

Learning at Strata After School happens through enrichment, projects, movement, and collaboration. Educators create environments that invite participation, curiosity, and problem-solving while remaining responsive to children’s interests, energy levels, and developmental needs.

Across programs, children experience consistent routines, supportive relationships, and intentional design that help them feel secure, capable, and connected. The focus remains on building skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging that support children throughout the school-age years.
Partnership With Families
Families are important partners in the after-school experience at Strata Learning After School.

Clear communication and shared understanding support children’s engagement, well-being, and growth throughout the school-age years. Educators collaborate with families to provide continuity between the school day, after-school program, and home, focusing on participation, relationships, and development over time.

Partnership is grounded in trust and consistency. Educators communicate with care, remain responsive to family perspectives, and value collaboration as an essential part of supporting children’s confidence, belonging, and positive after-school experiences.
Our Layers
Strata Learning After School is part of Strata Learning Collective, an education organization that provides leadership, standards, and operational oversight in support of high-quality learning programs.

The Collective is built upon the legacy of Happy Hall Schools, which has served families on the San Francisco Peninsula for decades. Over time, this foundation has been shaped by steady growth, practical experience, and a sustained commitment to children, families, and educators across school-age programs.

Mary Lou Johnson played a pivotal role in shaping these early layers. Her leadership emphasized care for children, respect for educators, and the importance of programs that are consistent, well-run, and grounded in trust. These principles continue to inform how Strata approaches program design, daily operations, and relationships with families and schools.

Strata reflects a modern, evolving approach to learning beyond the classroom. Each layer builds upon what came before, adding clarity, structure, and intention to the after-school experiences offered through Strata Learning After School.
Leadership & Oversight
Strata Learning After School is supported by an experienced leadership team within Strata Learning Collective. This team provides educational oversight, operational guidance, and long-term planning to ensure programs remain consistent, well-run, and responsive to the needs of children and families.

Leaders collaborate closely with site teams, supporting strong learning environments, clear systems, and ongoing professional growth. This structure allows educators to focus on children, relationships, and learning each day.
